Welcome to 5e Jump Calculator, a small online tool built to solve one oddly specific D&D 5e problem: jumping.
If you’ve ever been the player who halted the action to dig through the PHB, argued over how far a character can really leap, or tried to remember which stats affect jump distance, this site is for you.
What This Tool Is All About
5e Jump Calculator is a no-frills calculator that takes the 5e jump rules and does the math for you.
You enter a few details about your character—such as Strength, height, and whether you have a running start—and the calculator spits out your:
Maximum long jump distance
High jump height
Maximum reach during a jump
Other useful jump-related numbers based on the official rules
No page-flipping, no rough estimates—just straightforward outputs you can rely on.
The Story Behind the Site
This site was born from actual game-night problems.
As a DM who also plays regularly, I kept running into the same situation:
A player asks, "Can I make that jump?" and the entire table stalls while we check the rules.
The 5e rules for jumping aren’t especially complicated, but they are easy to forget. I found myself reaching for the PHB over and over again, so I did what many nerdy DMs do: I built a calculator.
5e Jump Calculator was originally just a quick private tool, and then I cleaned it up and put it online in case other tables were running into the same problem.
Under the Hood (Without the Jargon)
This tool implements the official Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition jumping rules found in the Player’s . In simple terms, it:
Uses your Strength score to determine base jump distances
Accounts for running vs standing jumps
Factors in your height and reach where appropriate
Sticks closely to RAW and avoids house-rule shortcuts
You don’t have to memorize any of that. The calculator does the work and outputs just what you need for play.
Making the Most of the Calculator
5e Jump Calculator is meant to be:
Quick enough for live play
Clear enough for new players
Trustworthy enough for rules-focused groups
You can use it to:
Verify a jump before the roll
Design encounters with realistic jumps in mind
Keep cinematic moments moving without arguing over distances
Open the site, fill in the fields, and you’re done. It’s meant to support your game quietly, not slow you down with options.
Future Plans
Right now, 5e Jump Calculator is deliberately simple: it handles jump distances cleanly.
In the future, I plan to:
Expand into other movement calculators
Cover more special abilities and conditions
Polish the interface and add small quality-of-life features
If you find a bug, or if you have an idea for improvement, I’d love to hear from you. This site is for DMs and players like you, and your input directly guides future changes.
Thanks for checking out 5e Jump Calculator. May it help your party jump a little farther and your rules debates be a little shorter.
